Turn Your Factory Into a Thriving Civilization!

You've built an impressive technological modpack with massive automated factories producing endless streams of resources, from wood and iron to… cake. Chest after chest is now brimming with delicious cakes and other goods. But here's the problem: what do you do with all of it?

Enter Care For Them, a mod designed to give your creations purpose!

This mod introduces the Xoonglins, a brand-new mob that populates your world. These mischievous yet adorable creatures rely on you to meet their needs. They crave food, homes, and care. In return, they bring life and activity to your world.

A Xoonglin creature on the overworld

How It Works:

  • Each Xoonglin belongs to a social class, and every class has unique needs to fulfill.
  • Provide food, build homes, and keep them happy to help them thrive.
  • Happy Xoonglins will move up the social ladder, unlocking new needs and challenges!

Getting Started:

Begin your journey with the Leader's Staff, a key item introduced by the mod. Here's how to get started:

  1. Build some homes for your Xoonglins to live in.
  2. Use the Leader's Staff on these homes (right click on doors while crouching) to designate them as suitable housing.
  3. Watch as Xoonglins begin to spawn in your world!

From there, it's up to you to provide for their needs and help them flourish. Xoonglins will get offspring if they are happy enough!

You can compete with your server mates for getting the happier and most populous Xoonglin village! You can use the built in commands for checking it: \happinessLadder, \populationLadder and \socialstructure

Sample resource pack classes and needs:

Each house must have one door and one chest. It is composed of four groups of blocks: floor, wall, interior and roof. Each of these groups can only belong to a given set.

The items needed by Xoonglins must be provided in their home's chest.

Settler

Home: Floor made of any planks, wall made of logs and roof made of wooden stairs.

Needs: daily potatoes and logs.

Citizen

Home: Floor made of stone, walls of cobblestone and roof of stone bricks.

Needs: Daily bread and coal. Optionally, iron swords, terracota or books.

Soldier

Home: Floor and walls made of stone bricks with some iron bars as part of the wall. Roof made of stone brick slabs.

Needs: Daily chicken and flint. An iron sword every few days.

Artisan

Home: Floor made of terracotta, walls made of brick blocks and roof made of red terracotta.

Needs: Chicken, clay balls and terracotta.

Patrician

Home: Floor made of deepslate tiles, walls made of polished andesite with some glass panes and roofs made of polished granite.

Needs: Porkchops, golden nuggets and books.

Noble

Home: Floor made of polished diorite, walls made of quartz with some glass panes and roofs made of smooth quartz.

Needs: Beef, cake and diamonds.

Fully Customizable:

The mod comes with sample needs and social classes, but everything is configurable via datapacks. You can create your own tailored experience to suit your modpack or server. You can find documentation about how to create datapacks for Care For Them in the wiki.

Make Your World More Dynamic:

Whether you're looking to give purpose to your factory outputs or simply add a lively, immersive challenge, Care For Them is the perfect addition.

Feel free to include this mod in your modpack and watch your world come alive with bustling Xoonglins!

Development and future roadmap:

The mod is in an early stage with only the basic features implemented (and likely, tons of bugs). After some bugfixing, it is expected that the development will continue unto these features:

  • More types of needs (fluid consumption, lighting, nearby buildings, energy).
  • Jobs! It is only just that your Xoonglins give something back, isn't it?
  • Buffs for Xoonglins received after satisfying certain needs.
