achromatic
achromatic is a resource pack that tries to remove as much of the color as it can from minecraft on its own. every texture is made grayscale, the internal core shaders have been modified to remove color, and hardcoded colors have been changed.
this was unreasonably difficult and if you want true grayscale you should honestly just use a shaderpack because even this isn't perfect lmao
faq
some blocks still look colored (eg. spruce/birch leaves, lily pads)
reload chunks with F3+A, that should fix it. i think this is an issue with polytone
will this work with content from other mods?
things in the gui should work, but things in the world such as blocks will not, no. if you want support for a particular mod, it shouldn't be too hard for me to implement, so just create an issue on the github!
can i use this without polytone?
yeah, but a lot of things will still be colored, is the tradeoff
can i use this with other resource packs?
well if you put the other resource pack over achromatic, the textures it changes won't be grayscale anymore, but the shaders should still work, so it should look fine in your inventory but weird in the world. and if you put the other resource pack under achromatic it'll override every texture. so. you can try, i guess? but either way it's not gonna go very well
does this work on [other minecraft version]?
i've only tested this on 1.20.1. if you want another minecraft version, let me know on github and i'll get to it at some point!
i found something colored that's not in the "known issues" section
please tell me about it on github!
known issues
- lava fog is still colored (i'm not sure how to fix this, i tried to with polytone but it's not working)
- sky light is ever so slightly blue and block light is ever so slightly orange (i tried fixing this with the lightmap shader and failed, evidently)
